Mary A. Barbara was born on 11 April 1937 in Tarxien, Malta. She married Edgar Anthony Spiteri, son of Charles J. Spiteri and Phyllis M. Bonnici, on 18 August 1956 at San Francisco, CA, USA. Mary A. Barbara died on 18 June 2021 at San Mateo Co., CA, USA, at age 84. She was buried on 24 June 2021 at Holy Cross Cemetery, Colma, CA, USA.
As of 1956,her married name was Spiteri. She was living in 2018 in 3653 San Benito St, San Bruno, CA, USA; Maltese elder.
Obituary: in June 2021: Our beloved Mary Spiteri joined her late husband, Edgar, in heaven on Friday, June 18, surrounded by her loved ones at home. She was an amazing and devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend. She is survived by her three children, Rose Papadopoulos (Steve), Chuck Spiteri (Kathy), and Sam Spiteri (Gina), 7 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren. Mary was born in Malta and came to the United States with her family after World War II to join her father, who wanted to provide his family with more opportunities. She was proud of her Maltese heritage and shared stories of her childhood living in shelters & rationing food during the World War II bombings. She enjoyed talking about how her first communion dress was made by her mother from the silk of a German Army Parachute that landed in her neighborhood. Mary was a great cook; still making her kids' dinner once a week and her famous pastizzi - a special Maltese treat for special occasions.
She worked at a candle factory, a meatpacking company, and as a retail clerk at Pisano Bakery and Wonder Bread Bakery. Her family was accustomed to her bringing fresh, hot bread home daily. She enjoyed talking to loyal customers and made many friends. Her most important role was when she married the love of her life, Edgar Spiteri. After that, her priority became taking care of her husband and three children. She did this with love from the bottom of her generous heart. Later in life, her husband was bedridden with Parkinson's; Mary had the strength and determination to care for him in their own home. She was the definition of a true Matriarch and a role model with her strong will, loving personality, and selflessness to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Always working on keeping the family together, she exuded strength every single day. She was our trusted family dog sitter (the dogs became her closestcompanions to help her survive the loneliness of COVID), walked in the pool daily at the YMCA before Covid, where she made many friends, crocheted blankets for each new baby in the family, and loved hosting holidays. Mary loved cooking and being with her family, and above all, she had enormous faith in God. She found peace in prayer, and her surviving family members find peace in knowing that she will be an Angel in heaven with her husband. Her family will lovingly remember Mary as a strong-willed, selfless, caring, and loving woman. We will be forever grateful for the times we all shared with her and the invaluable gift of unconditional love she gave to all of us. We will honor her by continuing to love our families and our neighbors as she did. We know she is watching over us and praying for us every day in heaven.
Obituary: on 8 July 2021: Our beloved sister Mary Spiteri of San Mateo, passed away peacefully on June 18, 2021 after a brief illness. Born in Malta on April 11, 1937, to Olympia & Sam Barbara - Mary was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Edgar Spiteri, and her brother Charlie Barbara (Gina). She is survived by her brothers, Joseph (Grazyna), Emmanuel (Mechelle), and Alpio Barbara (Mary), her sister Theresa Stellini (Tony, d.), and her children Rosemarie Papadopoulos (Steve), Chuck Spiteri (Kathy), and Sam Spiteri (Gina). She leaves behind beloved grandchildren, great-children, nieces, nephews, and friends.

Mary loved taking trips to play the slot machines, and enjoyed games of Bingo over the years at various local parishes. Her home, kitchen, and arms were always open, and she could frequently be found crocheting an afghan blanket or enjoying a Hallmark movie. Mary was a devout Catholic, and embodied the spirit and values of the faith. Special thanks would like to be given to her caregivers, especially Lola Haupeakui.

Mary requested that donations be made to her favorite organization - the Maltese Cross Foundation: www.maltesecrossfoundation.com.
